The Indian at the funfair

The Indian at the funfair, originally uploaded by Thorsten Becker. Evening fell on the tumbling city below like a velvet blanket. Lights streamed from the funfair downtown, casting a rainbow of colors on a partially cloudy sky. A large harvest moon smiled on the busy traffic below before gazing back at the stars. The sun

Far away there

Far away there, originally uploaded by Thorsten Becker. I do not want to be, no I cannot be silent about that which is not here, yet, that which is no there, yet, but that which is far away there, out in the distance, drawing ever closer, step by step, beat by beat. Not by our

The silence heralds Charon’s imminent arrival

The silence heralds Charon’s imminent arrival, originally uploaded by Thorsten Becker. That which was fading has now come to pass. The last winter light, ash and livid, floats across the waters, above bare trees, watching for the passing of the season of white and slumber. New light breaks across the sky. Now we are shells

Now we are shells, originally uploaded by Thorsten Becker. We’re moving, but not by our own design Shuffling towards the finish line It’s illusive, shifting, tilting There, on the shores of plenty We desire, we want, we need Yet we do not understand Nor do we seem to realize That we lost ourselves, our lives

Value and worth

Value and worth, originally uploaded by Thorsten Becker. Say, how much do you think you’re worth? Maybe $8 an hour? Or $50/h? Or $150/h? How about $45,000 a year? Or $100,000? I think you can tell where I am going. There are several value systems we’re dealing with frequently, the most influential being our income.

A red dichotomy

A red dichotomy, originally uploaded by Thorsten Becker. Fields of red Color of passion   Color of dread Like love flowing   Blood spilled My appreciation, growing   I turn in disgust My heart rejoice’   My soul shudders For warmth fills its chambers   As anger and rage flutters As I imagine all the people   Don’t want to think

That golden path

That golden path, originally uploaded by Thorsten Becker. To me life is about balance. I am always inclined to find what is referred to in German as the “goldener Mittelweg”, roughly translated the “golden (middle) path”, though the actual English equivalent is “happy medium”. I avoid extremes, my motto being that too much of a
