Winter’s desire

Winter’s desire, originally uploaded by Thorsten Becker.

The sun has been captured, her power subdued.
Barred behind thick clouds she gleams but faintly
As winter, the bitter conqueror, grips her realm with icy blows.
Branches bend under his heavy hand
And lakes’ and rivers’ lively motions
Are halted by his freezing words.
All is silent as through biting winds his demands are uttered
That all which is alive now stop its carefree doings.
Yet, his heart is tender as he searches through frozen time
And turning to the sun he earnestly confess’
“Much I desire the beauty of your realm, to touch but once it’s tender face.
To keep it from fading my heart so achingly wants, that I may stop time eternally, you see.”
Thus sun in her sweet warmth replies
“Too well I understand your noble deeds my love, but I plead with you to reconsider. For the beauty of life is its easy coming and going. Do not fret, the things that fade will be reborn.”
Winter answers with humble words
“Your light I cannot bear for long as darkness is my elixir. But your bindings I shall loosen that some of your light will soften my spells so harsh, and life may cheer in your presence and rove about but once again.”
Hence winter declares that the sun shall rise to bring promise of a brighter day
That dreariness may fade and beauty thrive as sounds of life echo across white lands.
