Song of the setting sun

26 Sep

Song of the setting sun, originally uploaded by Thorsten Becker.

As the day slowly and silently fades
Making way for nights wondrous parades
A melody carried by the evening breeze
Sets all nature gently appease.
Without a voice a song comes forth
Greeting the moon in the far up north.
And through branches blackened and darkly
Filters last warm light – shimmering and sparkly.
Open your eyes and listen intently
To the song of the setting sun, sung so gently.

Nothing for sale

Nothing for sale, originally uploaded by Thorsten Becker.

And so the merchant asked
How much for your heart?
What’s the price on your soul?
A dime for your thoughts.
Can I pay you to play a role?
I am desperate
Out of stock
Out of time
Out of my mind
Won’t you please be so kind?
I have nothing to offer
Because I have nothing for sale.
When will they understand
That their games have grown stale?
The best things in life are free.
Always were, always will be.

Tower of Babel

Tower to Babel, originally uploaded by Thorsten Becker.

We keep on stacking
Where wisdom is lacking
Coin upon coin
And bill upon bill
Just for the thrill
Until
It all comes tumbling down.
And broken is a mighty crown
Made of paper and tin
Its foundation proved too thin.
We keep on building the tower of babel
We keep forgetting about things that are stable:
Joy, love, happiness
Stop, pause, recess.
They cannot be bought
But have to be sought
Amongst the people who share
With tender care
Their hearts, open and bare.

Watcha got there?

Watcha got there?, originally uploaded by Thorsten Becker.

Coming in to Munich first week of August we had a 12 hour layover thanks to the Lufthansa pilot strike. We used the time to go downtown and headed over to the English Garden (I highly recommend a visit). The lake (called Kleinhesseloher See) in the northern part of the park was busy with all sorts of ducks, geese and other water birds. We had some bread on us (thanks to the breakfast and lunch vouchers from Lufthansa) and decided to throw a few pieces here and there. It didn’t take long before we were literally beleaguered by almost every bird in the park, squawking, pulling on our trousers and in general being very "demanding". This little guy in particular kept on us. But who can say no to a face like this?

If your life has been busy and stressful lately I encourage you to take some time out, even if its just an hour, and go down to a local park. Enjoy the rest of the summer sun or the first autumn rays, feed some birds, fish, squirrels and connect with what life is really all about.

Good night, sweet dreams

Good night, sweet dreams., originally uploaded by Thorsten Becker.

Good night, sweet dreams.
Sleep tight under gentle streams
Of soothing light and calming air.
Breathe easy with no care.
No shadows will disturb your slumber,
No frights that will encumber
Your tender rest in night’s caring arms –
A watchful light will keep you free from harms.
